The Climate Resilience & Youth Empowerment Initiative focuses on understanding and responding to the impacts of flooding and climate change on young people and affected communities.

Following severe flooding in Tindiga Village, Kilosa District, on 27 December 2025, ENHANCE Tanzania engaged young people through an informal community dialogue to listen to their experiences and understand how the floods affected their livelihoods, health, mental well-being, and aspirations.

The initiative recognizes young people not only as people affected by climate-related disasters, but also as important actors in community recovery and resilience. Young people identified the need for safer settlements and farmland, livelihood opportunities, skills development, and greater participation in decisions affecting their communities and future.

Key Priorities

  • Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
Supporting young people and families affected by displacement and the psychological pressures associated with flooding.
  • Livelihood Recovery & Resilience
Supporting social and economic recovery and strengthening household resilience following the loss of crops, poultry, farming tools, and income opportunities.
  • Climate-Resilient Communities
Promoting safer settlements, roads, water and sanitation systems, and access to health services.
  • Youth Empowerment
Supporting skills development, livelihoods, leadership, and meaningful youth participation in local decision-making.
  • Research & Policy
Generating evidence on what works in preventing and responding to recurrent floods while ensuring community voices inform policies and investments.

Our Approach

ENHANCE Tanzania uses community dialogue and lived experiences as an important starting point for evidence, action, and policy change. The goal is to move beyond short-term emergency responses toward long-term, community-centred approaches that help communities become safer, healthier, and more resilient.
